Wilkin Booking Photos Are Public
Minnesota Statutes § 13.82, subdivision 26 defines a booking photograph and classifies it as public data. An agency may temporarily withhold access when disclosure would adversely affect an active investigation. The public classification does not mean that every Wilkin County photo must remain posted on a website. It means the image can be requested from the agency record when the exception does not apply.
A booking photo identifies an intake event. It does not establish guilt, conviction, current custody, or the way a person left Wilkin County Jail. Where Wilkin Release Mugshots Appear
Each channel has a different scope. The official Wilkin roster displays a thumbnail only for a person then listed in custody. A Sheriff request is the direct route to the former booking image. Minnesota DOC may hold a correctional image after state commitment, but that is not the county mugshot. Nonofficial publishers and news reports can help locate an old image, yet neither can certify current status or release type.

No official Wilkin County post-release photo gallery, mobile app, historical name search, or online photo-retention promise was found. There is also no county-published takedown policy or online correction process for a former roster image.
Wilkin Roster Photo Limits
The official Wilkin County In Custody report displays an enlargeable booking-photo thumbnail with MNI, name, sex, age, booking number, intake time, charges, and bail or bond entries. It is a current-custody table. It does not offer a released filter, a release timestamp, an archive, or a 24-hour or 72-hour photo view.

When a row disappears, the image may vanish from public view even though the Sheriff still holds the underlying booking record.
Wilkin County does not publish a sheriff inmate-search or recent-release mobile app. Inmate Canteen is promoted for communication and video visitation, not as a Sheriff roster, mugshot archive, or release record. Request Wilkin Booking Photographs
Use the Wilkin County public-data form and direct the request to the Sheriff at the Law Enforcement Center. The form allows inspection, copies, or both. Inspection of public data is free under Minnesota § 13.03. Copies or electronic delivery can involve allowed charges, so ask for an estimate before approving production.
- Identify the person and one custody episode with full name, date of birth if known, MNI, booking number, and approximate intake date.
- Ask specifically for the booking photograph associated with that booking, not every image held under the person's name.
- Choose inspection, electronic copies, paper copies, or both on the county form.
- Include release date and authority in the request when the image must be tied to a confirmed exit.
- Ask the Sheriff to cite the statutory classification for any withheld or redacted part.
- Confirm current charges and delivery format before paying for copies.
The Sheriff's published page lists $0.25 per electronic or paper page and separately lists a $100 setup charge under its bulk-copy wording. The dated 2023 county fee schedule lists record work at an administrative staff hourly rate and a $15 item for a CD of photographs. These figures need current confirmation. No fixed Wilkin response time for a booking-photo request was found.
Wilkin Release Images Beyond Jail
A person committed from Wilkin County Jail to the Minnesota Commissioner of Corrections has moved into state custody, not directly into the community. The Minnesota DOC public viewer may include an identifying correctional image within its public coverage. That image belongs to the DOC record and should not be labeled the Wilkin County booking photograph.
If a DOC image or state release record is needed, use Minnesota DOC Records Management. DOC records can continue after the person leaves a secure prison through community-supervision or discharge information. Read the correctional status first. A future date or a community-supervision label answers a different question from a county release timestamp.
The Minnesota BCA Predatory Offender Search is another narrow image channel. Registration data include a photograph, and publicly disclosable community-notification records may carry an updated image. The public search is intentionally not universal. A missing result does not establish that no booking, registration duty, or release occurred.
Photo Archives and News Reports
Nonofficial roster archives and commercial mugshot publishers can preserve a Wilkin County image after it leaves the government roster. Regional news outlets may also publish an agency-supplied photograph with occasional arrest coverage. These are channel categories, not official sources, and no commercial mugshot, data-broker, or paid-removal service is linked or endorsed.
Check whether the image clearly identifies the agency, booking date, and person. A dated archive can narrow when a row appeared or disappeared, but it cannot distinguish bond release from transfer, return to another county, DOC commitment, federal movement, or another outcome. A news story is selective and can remain online long after the event changes.
Use the Sheriff record to authenticate a Wilkin County booking photograph. Use the court case and release record to establish what happened later. If a third-party image is wrong or stale, preserve the page date and details, correct the official source record first if needed, then follow that publisher's own correction process without paying or endorsing a removal service.

Expunged Wilkin Booking Records
Minnesota chapter 609A supplies petition and automatic-expungement routes for qualifying records. Eligibility depends on the offense, disposition, waiting period, later history, and statutory exclusions. Absence from the public court portal still does not prove that the booking never occurred.
An expungement order and a website removal are not interchangeable. Government agencies must apply the order and the data classification that governs their records. A publisher outside that process may keep a copy and use a separate correction or removal policy. Minnesota clearly classifies booking photos as public subject to the active-investigation exception, but the research found no current Minnesota statute aimed specifically at commercial mugshot publication or fees charged to remove a mugshot.
State the legal gap narrowly. It does not endorse paid removal, and it does not create a right for an official Wilkin County image to remain posted forever. Correct Wilkin Mugshot Records
Start with the record owner. A wrong identity, booking number, or case link should be raised with the Wilkin County Sheriff using the exact page, booking, and image details.
